Belfast Airport History

Belfast Airport was established in 1917 on the outskirts of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Formally an RAF training base used during the First World War at Aldergrove to be used by the Royal Flying Corps.

In June 1921 King George V and Queen Mary landed at Aldergorove during their Northern Ireland visit of 1921.

During the Second World War the base was used by RAF Coastal Command for submarine hunting duties.

Belfast Airport has grown into a truly international airport flying passengers to America and mainland Europe.

Famously Concorde touched down at Belfast International Airport on its 2003 farewell tour.
